Sometimes I'm funny, other times I'm annoying. I take pride in both. |
arekesulive asked: Okay, I have a question for you, after reading your last one. Do you think that new youtubers can still gain a following? I know that with me personally I don't really watch anyone new. It's as you said, youtube can only support so many people, and why that is, is because most people can only watch a handful of youtubers, and don't have the time, or patience to sift through all the new youtubers in hopes of finding one they like. So yeah, can new youtubers still gain a following?
It does get harder as time goes on since people do get set in their favorites, the same way people watch the same TV shows or channels. The biggest problem I see with new or wanna-be-big channel is that they are average. They aren’t bad, but they aren’t good either. The thing about the entertainment industry is that average gets you nowhere.
Do you drive to the store, buy the groceries you wanted, go home, and then tell people about that trip to the store? No, because it was average and average is boring. Either really bad content gets noticed (Friday…Friday…) or really good content gets noticed. If you take that same trip to the store, but on the way you see a crazy car accident, the store had to close early because of a bee invasion, and some employee ran out screaming “THE BEEEES, THEY WILL KILL US ALL”, then you would tell everyone about that trip. Or, if you went to the store, and on the way saw a random man in a funny hat dancing on the side of the road, and then got to the store and got 20 boxes of free ice cream sandwiches, you would also tell people about it.
Main point: AVERAGE IS BORING. IF YOU ARE AVERAGE, YOU ARE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE AND BORING. You notice things out of the ordinary along your mundane routine, also called the ‘purple cow theory.’ If you express more of your personality in your videos, and do something that isn’t really being done by anyone else and people enjoy it, then you’re on the right path. It’s just difficult to do that because of the fear of criticism you will receive for trying to be different and unique, but that’s just part of being an entertainer.
I will now reuse my ‘cool story bro’ gif:
